A full list is given here of all the borders shared by the various countries in the Guide, and the rail routes across those borders. For completeness, also shown are:
|
|
borders which have no rail routes (for example Albania and Greece), |
|
|
countries which are only connected by a train ferry (for example Poland and Sweden), and |
|
|
borders with countries outside the scope of the Guide (for example Russia and Ukraine). |
Each pair of countries is listed in alphabetical order, for example Albania - Serbia-Montenegro, and is only listed once: so there is no section for Serbia-Montenegro - Albania. The border crossings for each pair of countries are listed in clockwise order from the point of view of the first country of the pair.
Stations given in these lists are in the order of travelling from the country whose name is mentioned first to the other. In most cases they are the passenger stations nearest the border; names appearing in parentheses are larger places further away and are inserted to help identify the line in question. The normal abbreviation for the Operating or Infrastructure company is also given - a list of these is in preparation.
Country names are given with the normal English spelling, but place names are rendered with the local spelling.
The date of the last update of the information is shown against each country pair.
For the meaning of the codes used within this document, and the criteria for inclusion of information, please see General Information on Border Crossings, where there is also an alphabetical list of countries and links to complete sets of crossings for each country.
All border crossings listed are standard gauge (1435mm) unless otherwise stated. For a discussion on gauge variations (for example 1668mm versus 1676mm) see General Information - Gauges.
An alternative list of Railways across European borders is also available, without giving the operational details. Each crossing in that list is hyperlinked to the appropriate detailed crossing on this page.

(Shkodër -) Hani-i-Hoti HSH - Tuzi CG (- Podgorica): [D] This line did not open until 1986 and the treaty concerning its construction limited it to freight use only. Traffic has been very erratic. When trains do operate CG works to Hani-i-Hoti. In early September 2001 the line appeared very rusty and was blocked by a line of stored wagons; however these had been cleared by late 2002 and trains do now operate on a reasonably regular basis.
Last update: 17 December 2006.
(Linz -) Summerau ÖBB - Horní Dvořistě ČD (- Českě Budějovice): [E*] Electrification between Českě Budějovice and Summerau was completed in December 2001: the voltage change is at the border. Passenger and freight trains exchange ČD and ÖBB electric locomotives at either Summerau or at Horní Dvořistě. Both countries now have dual-frequency locomotives, but ČD do not have many and some diesel workings remain. From June 2003 ÖBB dual-frequency electric locomotives have worked some freight services throughout between Linz and Českě Budějovice.
(Wien -) Gmund NÖ ÖBB - České Velenice ČD: [ED] ČD diesel trains work to Gmünd.
(Waidhofen an der Thaya -) Fratres ÖBB - Slavonice ČD (- Kostelec u Jihlavy): Line closed and lifted, but has been proposed for re-opening.
Retz ÖBB - atov ČD (- Znojmo): [D] The Znojmo - Retz local service is currently operated by ČD diesel railcars. From December 2002 there had also been three through train pairs between Wien and Znojmo worked by ÖBB diesel locomotives throughout but an extension of ÖBB electrification is now approved with work to atov underway and planned for completion in September 2007. Electrification will follow through to Znojmo at the Austrian standard of 15 kV 16.7 Hz but as atov to Znojmo will be undertaken by ČD and involves a complicated section over a lengthy and high single track bridge, no timescale has yet been given. In the meantime there will be no through services.
(Wien -) Bernhardsthal ÖBB - Břeclav ČD: [E*] Dual-frequency ÖBB locomotives work to Břeclav.
Last update: 22 August 2007.
(Bregenz -) Lochau-Hörbranz ÖBB - Lindau-Reutin DB (- Lindau): [E] ÖBB and SBB work to Lindau using electric locomotives. No DB electric stock is seen at Lindau because only the line to Bregenz is electrified. A small pool of SBB locomotives, specially-fitted with an ÖBB pantograph as well as the smaller Swiss one, are used on passenger trains between Zürich and Lindau.
(Reutte in Tirol -) Schönbichl ÖBB - Pfronten-Steinach DB: [D] DB operates the service between Pfronten-Steinach and Reutte in Tirol using diesel units.
(Reutte in Tirol -) Ehrwald-Zugspitzbahn ÖBB - Griesen (Oberbay) DB (- Garmisch-Partenkirchen): [E] DB operates the service between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Reutte in Tirol using electric units.

Passenger services between Wien and Fertöszentmiklós are worked by dual-frequency ÖBB and GySEV locomotives.
(Ebenfurth -) Baumgarten GySEV - Sopron GySEV: [E*] carries dual-frequency ÖBB Corridor Trains via Sopron to Deutschkreutz. Sopron to Ebenfurth is electrified at the Hungarian standard 25kV 50Hz, and Ebenfurth station area has switchable tracks: the ÖBB Corridor Trains change frequency whilst reversing here, and electrically-hauled GySEV/MÁV freight trains can work to here from Sopron. At Sopron there are separate domestic and international stations - though at platform level this is not obvious. There are quite separate entrances, with Hungarian and Austrian border controls taking place in the international area. A subway leads from this below the domestic platforms (to which there is normally no access) to the international island platform on the far side of the domestic ones. Conversely, the domestic subway does not extend beyond the domestic platforms.
(Wiener Neustadt -) Loipersbach-Schattendorf ÖBB - Sopron-deli MÁV (- Sopron GySEV): [D] carries ÖBB Corridor Trains between Wiener Neustadt and Sopron, a few of which continue to Deutschkreutz. See above for details of the Sopron station area.

(Athus -) Rodange SNCB - Longwy SNCF: Line closed and lifted.
(Dinant -) Halanzy SNCB - Longwy SNCF: [E] This is a new chord line a few km long near Athus, to permit direct operation between Virton and Longwy. This route was scheduled to carry a passenger service during winter 2006/2007 but this never operated.
Dinant SNCB - Givet SNCF: [D] Occasional tourist operation only.

(St.Ghislain -) Quiévrain SNCB - Blanc-Misseron SNCF (- Valenciennes): [D] This line is closed.
(Bruxelles -) Antoing SNCB - Frétin SNCF (- Lille/Paris): {high-speed line} [E] Electrification at 25 kV 50Hz is to SNCF standards as far as the end of the high speed line at Lembeek (15 km from Bruxelles), with neutral sections there and at the intermediate access points near Antoing and near Ath. Only trains equipped with TVM430 cab signalling can use this line.
(Tournai -) Froyennes SNCB - Baisieux SNCF (- Lille): [E*] A neutral section just west of Froyennes separates SNCB and SNCF electrification and only dual-system electric motive power can use the line. Initially, most local passenger trains continued to be worked by SNCF diesel units, but now SNCB dual-system EMUs run hourly between Lille and Ličge.
(Kortrijk -) Mouscron/Moeskroen NMBS - Tourcoing SNCF (-Lille): [E*] The neutral section between the SNCB 3kV and the SNCF 25kV 50Hz is a few kilometers south of Mouscron. Last update: 21 June 2005.
Montzen SNCB - Aachen West DB: [D] Freight only. Most trains are worked by DB, using class 215 diesel locomotives fitted with Belgian signalling equipment. The line is electrified on the German side of the border, so electric locomotives can bank trains out of Aachen West. Trains run on the right-hand track throughout between Montzen and Aachen West.
(Ličge -) Welkenraedt SNCB - Aachen Hbf DB: [E*] Aachen Hbf has four switchable tracks, but most cross-border passenger services are now provided by multi-system high-speed trains (THALYS or ICE3). Since 15 December 2002, SNCB has been operating 3 kV EMUs (IR) at two-hourly intervals between Ličge Guillemins and Aachen Hbf. In the past SNCB multi-system locomotives hauled 'classic' trains through to Köln. The change from left-hand to right-hand running takes place by means of a flyover west of the tunnel at Aachen Süd.

(Ličge -) Gouvy SNCB - Troisvierges CFL (- Luxembourg): [E] The two-hourly Luxembourg - Ličge service is jointly worked by SNCB and CFL with trains and crews working through. Trains are hauled by dual-system electric locomotives: the transition between 3kV dc and 25kV 50Hz is just south of Rivage in Belgium.
(Arlon -) Sterpenich SNCB - Kleinbettingen CFL (- Luxembourg): [E] SNCB 3kV dc electrification extends to Luxembourg station and Luxembourg triage, where there are switchable tracks. SNCB 3kV EMUs work through to Luxembourg and are also used on CFL local trains between Luxembourg and Kleinbettingen. Two SNCB electric units have been transferred to CFL ownership to account for this, but they are maintained by SNCB and work in common with the SNCB fleet. SNCF diesel locomotives were used occasionally on freight between Thionville and Arlon via Luxembourg, but this traffic is being transferred to the newly-electrified Athus - Meuse line (see below).
Athus SNCB - Rodange CFL: [E] The area is electrified at 25kV 50Hz and CFL EMUs provide the hourly passenger service from Rodange (Athus has no SNCB passenger service). The SNCB line from Athus to Dinant via Virton and Bertrix (including the chord giving direct access to Rodange) was electrified at 25kV 50Hz in December 2002. Through freight services between Antwerpen docks and Saint-Louis (the last station before the Swiss border) or intermediate points such as Thionville are operated throughout by SNCB type 13 dual-system electric locos (and the CFL similar type 30s).

Note: The Croatian and Slovenian railways were once part of the J Yugoslav railways and have largely common operating systems. The two different electrification systems originate from Slovenia and part of Croatia having been Italian territory until 1945. Accordingly, FS 3kV dc electrification had reached Postojna and Rijeka by 1939. This system was used for further schemes in the area, despite 25kV being adopted as the Yugoslav standard.

Fredrikshavn DSB Göteborg BV: {train ferry} Limited freight only.
Helsingřr DSB - Helsingborg BV: {train ferry} This route has not been used since the opening of the fixed link (see next item), and cannot be brought into use again without infrastructure work.
Křbenhavn DSB - Malmö BV: [E*] The Řresund fixed link, via a tunnel and a bridge, between Denmark and Sweden opened on 2 July 2000. Electrification and signalling standards are to Danish standards, with the change to Swedish systems at Lernacken, Sweden. Dual-frequency electric units and locomotives work passenger and freight trains. DSB operates trains between Křbenhavn and Ystad, connecting there with a ferry to the Danish island of Bornholm. Passengers to/from Bornholm can use DSB domestic tickets, but these are not valid for break of journey in Sweden. These trains to not call at Malmö, but reverse at Fosieby, the direct curve onto the Ystad line not yet having been built. A railway tunnel is being built under the centre of Malmö and when this opens (2009) part of the recently-opened line will no longer be used by regular passenger services. All rail routes between this pair of countries are 1520mm gauge.
(Kemijärvi -) Kelloselkä VR - Alakurti RD: [D] This line, opened as part of Finnish war reparations to Russia, may never have carried any through traffic. It has long been out of use east of Kelloselkä, though track still remains in place from there towards the Russian border beyond which the line is partially lifted. In 2006 the last remaining traffic (timber) on the section of line between Isokylä (just east of Kemijärvi) and Kelloselkä ceased. RHK (Finnish equivalent of Network Rail) have now mothballed the entire line east of Isokylä pending a decision to be made in conjunction with Russian and Swedish authorities on a possible reopening as part of a through route to cater for the predicted vast increase in container traffic from China to Americas west coast via train through Russia, Finland and Sweden to Norway for transferring to ships.
(Kontiomäki -) Vartius VR - Kostomuksha RD: [D] Freight only. Most of it is iron-ore pellets from a mine/processing plant at Kostomuksa (some 30 km inside Russia) which go to the steel works at Raahe and also to the port of Kokkola for export. On the Russian side a new line 126 km long opened in 2001 from Ledmozero to Kotshkoma considerably reduced the distance from Vartius to the Archangel area of Russia. It was hoped this would lead to a significant increase in traffic. However due to a lack of funds signalling and telecommunication works on the line were never completed severely restricting its capacity. The line from Vartius to Kontiomäki will be electrified by the end of 2006 along with the line from Oulu via Kontiomäki to Iisalmi. It is hoped to extend electrification all the way to Kotshkoma in the long term.
Niirala VR - Vyartsilya RD: [D] Freight only. Mainly used to import raw timber to Finland: this amounted to 2.5 million tonnes last year.
Parikkala VR - Elisenvarra RD: [D] The tracks have been lifted across the border.
Imatrankoski VR - Svetogorsk RD: [D] Freight only, but see Obscure Service FI03/2. Mainly used to import raw timber and wood products to Finland, which amounted to 2.6 million tonnes in 2000.
(Kouvola -) Vainikkala VR - Luzhaika RD (- Sankt Peterburg): [E*] RD dual-system electric locos (3kV dc/25kV 50Hz) work into Finland. There are 3 passenger trains a day in each direction. Last year 7.7 million tonnes of freight mainly, raw wood, oil, gas and fertiliser crossed the border into Finland. 550,000 tonnes passed the other way mainly construction materials, farm machinery and consumer goods. Out of all this 2.5 million tonnes of freight go directly to and from Finnish Sea ports for export and import to from other countries.
Last update: 02 July 2006.
Tornio/Torneĺ VR - Haparanda BV: [D] Freight only. A single Swedish 1435mm gauge track extends to Tornio and a Finnish 1524mm gauge track to Haparanda. The two lines are interlaced across the border bridge. Standard gauge trains to Tornio yard mainly convey containers, which are transferred to Finnish wagons. Broad gauge trains to Haparanda yard are mainly vans whose contents are transhipped to standard gauge vans. A Talgo gauge changer was tested at Haparanda but now seems to be out of use (to keep it operational in winter de-icing sprays were necessary). At Tornio a German DB/Rafil gauge changer is now in small-scale commercial use. There are also facilities for changing wagon bogies here. A study is underway to rationalize the two yards to just one. There is a plan to upgrade Boden - Morjärv - Kalix, build a new line Kalix - Haparanda, and close Morjärv - Karungi - Haparanda; this route would be electrified.

From 10 June 2007 SNCF TGVs between Paris and Stuttgart will replace daytime trains between Paris and München. Local trains between Strasbourg and Offenburg comprise diesel rail cars. Most are operated by Ortnau S-Bahn GmbH, but a few are worked by SNCF.
(Mulhouse -) Bantzenheim SNCF - Neuenburg (Baden) DB (- Müllheim (Baden)): [E*] Normally freight only. SNCF works to Neuenburg (Baden) using dual-frequency electric locomotives. On certain Sundays in summer and late 2006 a special train service operated approximately every 2 hours between Mulhouse Ville and Müllheim (Baden). A similar services is expected to operate in 2007 - see DE07/610 and FR04/115A.
Last update: 20 April 2008.
(Lille -) Calais-Fréthun SNCF - Channel Tunnel - Cheriton/Ashford International/Sandling NR: [E/E/E*] The Channel Tunnel is electrified at 25 kV 50 Hz; all trains (other than Eurotunnel works trains) using it must be equipped with TVM430 cab signalling and must meet stringent fire resistance standards.
The Channel Tunnel connects directly with "High Speed 1" (HS1), previously known as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, at Dollands Moor. This opened to passengers on 28 September 2003 as far as Southfleet Jn, a distance of 70km. The 40km of HS1 Phase 2, between Southfleet Jn and London St Pancras International, opened for passenger traffic on Wednesday 14 November 2007. This resulted in the line from Southfleet Junction to Fawkham Junction (on the main line from London to Chatham) ceasing to be used by passenger trains. HS1 is electrified at 25 kV 50 Hz and all trains that use it must be TVM430-fitted.
Last update: 18 February 2008.
Modane SNCF - Bardonecchia FS (- Torino): [E*] FS works to Modane, with locomotives operating at reduced power under SNCF 1500V catenary. There are plans for FS locomotives to work freight to and from St Jean de Maurienne, and both SNCF and FS have acquired dual-voltage or multi-system locomotives for use on freight between Lyon and Torino. Multi-system TGVs operate between Paris and Milano.
(Nice -) Vievola SNCF - Limone FS (- Cuneo): [D] FS works to Tende, with most trains continuing to Nice or Ventimiglia. FS diesel railcars ALn663.1195-1204 are fitted with SNCF VACMA signalling equipment for operation to Nice. Although the line is in France, there are few SNCF workings between Breil-sur-Roya and Tende, and none north thereof.
Breil-sur-Roya SNCF - Olivetta S Michele FS (- Ventimiglia): [D] FS works to Breil-sur-Roya.
(Nice -) Menton-Garavan SNCF - Ventimiglia FS: [E*] SNCF works to Ventimiglia. The line from Marseille is electrified at 25kV 50Hz, but Ventimiglia station itself is 1500V dc. This system can be used by both the SNCF dual-system locomotives that operate in the area and FS 3kV dc stock.
Last update: 6 April 2008.
Longwy SNCF - Rodange CFL (- Luxembourg): [E] CFL works the passenger trains to Longwy.
Saulnes MD - Lasauvage MD (- Doihl - Fond de Gras): [D] This 700mm gauge railway is a preserved mining line, the full length of which is from Fond de Gras (Luxembourg) to Saulnes (France). Trains, operated by Miničresbunn Doihl asbl [webplaza.pt.lu/hpaul/mbd/mbdinfo.htm], operate in the afternoon on Sundays and holidays from May to September. Last update: 03 April 2005.
Note: although lines of both gauges (1435mm and 1668mm) cross the borders at Cerbčre/Port-Bou and Hendaye/Irun, passenger carrying trains normally run only from France to Irun and Port-Bou, while those from Spain normally run only to Hendaye and Cerbčre, i.e. trains run empty in the contrary directions. There are some through trains on each route which undergo change of carriage bogies (or have their wheel spacing adjusted) at the frontier. RENFE 3000V dc trains operate at reduced power under 1500V dc catenary in the border areas.
Cerbčre SNCF - Port-Bou RENFE: [E*] {see note above}
La Tour de Carol-Enveitg SNCF - Puigcerda RENFE: [E*] lines of both RENFE and SNCF gauges cross the border but only the RENFE line carries passenger trains.
(Oloron -) Forges-d'Abel SNCF - Canfranc RENFE: [E*] Line closed.

Notes:
(Mulhouse -) St Louis (Haut Rhin) SNCF - Basel St. Johann SBB (- Basel SBB): [E*] Bay platforms at the west end of Basel SBB are used by SNCF trains terminating or starting at Basel. These bays are electrified at 25 kV; the west end of the adjacent through platform is switchable, with a light display indicating '15' or '25' as appropriate. The SNCF platforms are accessed via buildings where frontier checks are undertaken. Dual-frequency multiple-units work local trains running through between Mulhouse and Pratteln and beyond. Long distance through trains between France and Switzerland are shunted between the two parts of the station by SBB dual-frequency shunting locomotives. Freight trains between France and goods yards in Basel are hauled by SNCF dual-frequency locomotives.
(Basel -) Flüh BLT - Leymen (France) - Rodersdorf BLT: [E] Metre gauge. The Baselland Transport tram route to Rodersdorf passes through France, where there is one stop at Leymen. Trams run on reserved track at this point, the line originally having been a railway, the Birsigtalbahn. This is officially a corridor service: there is a standard notice at Leymen station warning that "green channel" rules apply if you get on and off the tram.
(Belfort -) Delle SNCF - Boncourt CFF (- Delémont): [DE] Having closed on 1 June 1996, the line as far as Delle re-opened to CFF passenger services on 10 December 2006. There is no SNCF service between Delle and Belfort.
(Besançon -) Morteau SNCF - Le Locle Col des Roches CFF (- La Chaux de Fonds): [DE] SNCF works to Le Locle and provides the only train service at Le Locle Col-des-Roches, despite this being a CFF station.
(Pontarlier -) La Cluse et Mijoux SNCF - Les Verričres CFF (- Neuchâtel): [E*] The only cross-border passenger trains are multi-system TGVs running between Paris and cities in Switzerland. All of these run non-stop between Pontarlier and Neuchâtel. Any other trains are worked by CFF or BLS to and from Pontarlier.
(Frasne -) Les Tavins SNCF - Vallorbe CFF (- Lausanne): [E*] All daytime cross-border passenger trains are multi-system TGVs running between Paris and Lausanne. Overnight and freight trains are worked by SNCF to Vallorbe where tracks can be fed at 25kV 50Hz or 15kV 16.7Hz. The summit of the Simplon route from Paris to Milano is at Les Longevilles-Rochejan (897m above sea level) at the French end of the Mont dOr tunnel, which crosses the border.
(Bellegarde -) Pougny-Chancy SNCF - La Plaine CFF (- Genčve): [E*] SNCF works to Genčve and the line is electrified at 1500 V dc and signalled to SNCF standards from the border to both the passenger station and La Praille goods depot. CFF operates a local service between Genčve and La Plaine, using specially-built 1500 V dc rolling stock. Separate tracks, parallel with the 1500 V dc tracks, are used by CFF trains to and from Genčve Aéroport. SNCF trains use their own platform at Genčve, and passengers pass through frontier controls to access these. Most passenger trains from France terminate at Genčve, though there a small number of through night trains. At Genčve Cornavin station the electrification arrangements appear to be as follows. Platform 6 - at least - is switchable, and has been observed in use in quick succession by trains using SNCF and CFF voltages. Platforms 7 and 8 (the French side) are probably solely SNCF voltage - and also bay platform 5, used by CFF's La Plaine [- Bellegarde] shuttle. Platforms 1 to 3 will presumably be solely CFF voltage.
(Annemasse -) Ambilly SNCF - Genčve Eaux Vives SNCF: [E] This is part of the SNCF system and operated by SNCF throughout using dual-frequency rolling stock, though the branch itself is electrified at 25kV 50Hz. There is no freight traffic. Frontier checks are normally carried out on the train.
(Evian-les-Bains -) St Gingolph SNCF - St Gingolph (Suisse) CFF (- Bouveret): [DE] This line was used by freight and by a summer-only tourist service; however no traffic has run since 1999 due to the poor condition of the track. CFF runs a limited passenger train service to St Gingolph (Suisse).
(Chamonix -) Vallorcine SNCF - Le Chatelard Frontičre SNCF/MC (- Martigny MC): [E*] This is a metre-gauge line, electrified at 750V dc third rail on the SNCF line from St Gervais-les-Bains to Le Chatelard Frontiere and at 750V dc, mixed overhead and third-rail, on the Martigny-Chatelard line from Le Chatelard Frontier to Martigny. Until conversion of the MC to overhead was completed in 1997, this was the only international railway to be electrified with conductor rails both sides of the border. Both MC and SNCF have recently acquired new trains capable of running through between the two systems. Previously the two railways motor coaches were incompatible and through working was possible only by trailer vehicles.

Sassnitz Fahrhafen DB - Klaipeda LG: Although there is no land border between Germany and Lithuania the two countries are connected by a 1520mm-gauge train ferry. This was established by the USSR so that military traffic could be operated to and from the former DDR without needing to pass through Poland (though much was routed that way). The ferry has been retained in order to avoid border delays and paperwork caused by transit through Poland. Bogies are changed at Sassnitz, where DB has a small number of 1520mm-gauge locomotives for shunting wagons on and off the ferries.
Last update: 18 February 2008.
(Trier -) Igel DB - Wasserbillig CFL (- Luxembourg): [E*] InterRegio and other long distance trains are worked to and from Luxembourg by DB dual-frequency electric locomotives. Local trains between Trier and Luxembourg are operated by class 628 diesel units, two of which have been transferred from DB to CFL ownership, though still maintained at Trier.
Last update: 02 February 2007.
Vetschau DB - Simpelveld NS (- Schin op Geul): [D] This is part of the line used by passenger trains between Aachen and Maastricht until they were diverted to run to Heerlen via Herzogenrath. The junction at Aachen West has been removed. Zuid Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij now runs tourist steam trains between Schin op Geul and Kerkrade via Simpelveld, in addition to a branch service from Simpelveld over the border to Vetschau.

All entries are listed in route order Ireland to United Kingdom (except where passing from UK into Ireland and back out again) and northwest to southeast. Unless shown otherwise [in square brackets] lines were owned by the Great Northern Railway of Ireland (GNR(I)).
All routes between this pair of countries are/were 1600mm gauge unless otherwise shown .
All routes between this pair of countries are/were non-electrified.
Closure dates are given as "with effect from" date for withdrawal of last regular traffic over the line which was also the passenger closure date, unless otherwise shewn. Irish closures did often take place on the first day of the month - even though that was mid-week. The GNR(I) lines did close on two different dates in October 1957. The closure date refers only to the cross-border section - not necessarily through to the locations in parentheses ( ) on either side. The information tallies with that given in Appendix 1 of Volume 16 (Ireland) of A Regional History of Railways [of the British Isles] and Johnson's Atlas & Gazetteer of the Railways of Ireland; unfortunately other sources (such as Section 5 in Irish Railways Traction & Travel and Appendix 1 of Irish Railways since 1916) are not to be relied upon (for example, for some reason, they give Keady - Castleblaney as a year too late).

(Chełm -) Dorohusk PKP - Jahodyn UZ (- Kowiel): [D] PKP operates on 1435mm gauge tracks to Yahodyn. Prior to June 2000, there had been broad gauge cross border passenger services to/from Chełm, but now only standard gauge long-distance passenger (Berlin - Warszawa - Kyiv) remains, plus freight traffic. 1520mm tracks remain in situ towards factories near Chełmand confirmation of continuing broad gauge cross-border freight would be welcomed.

It has been discovered there are two pairs of cross border staff trains to the railway carriage works at Hrubieszów Towarowy from Iziv. Timings are based on shift patterns but it is not recommended to attempt to travel due to Ukraine Visa requirements. This line was formerly part of PKP and was called "Steel and Sulphur Railway".
