Denmark - Germany

Last update: 2 February 2007.

(Nykøbing -) Rødby Færge DSB - Puttgarden DB (- Lübeck): {train ferry} The EuroCity trains via this route are worked by DSB diesel units which are equipped with DB Indusi signalling equipment. Since opening of the fixed line between Nyborg and Korsør, most trains between Germany and Denmark run via Padborg.

(Tinglev -) Padborg DSB - Flensburg DB: [E*] DB works the through international services as far as Padborg, which is a better location, due to its simple layout, for the change in electrification system. DSB operates some diesel services as far as Flensburg.

Tønder DSB - Süderlügum (- Niebüll DB): [D] Passenger traffic beween Niebüll and Tønder is operated by Nord-Ostsee-Bahn GmbH (NOB). Freight traffic is operated by Dansk Jernbane AS (DJ). The infrastructure between Niebüll and the border with Denmark is owned by Norddeutsche Eisenbahngesellschaft Niebüll mbH.

Denmark - Sweden

Last update: 22 July 2005.

Fredrikshavn DSB – Göteborg BV: {train ferry} Limited freight only.

Helsingør DSB - Helsingborg BV: {train ferry} This route has not been used since the opening of the fixed link (see next item), and cannot be brought into use again without infrastructure work.

København DSB - Malmö BV: [E*] The Øresund fixed link, via a tunnel and a bridge, between Denmark and Sweden opened on 2 July 2000. Electrification and signalling standards are to Danish standards, with the change to Swedish systems at Lernacken, Sweden. Dual-frequency electric units and locomotives work passenger and freight trains. DSB operates trains between København and Ystad, connecting there with a ferry to the Danish island of Bornholm. Passengers to/from Bornholm can use DSB domestic tickets, but these are not valid for break of journey in Sweden. These trains to not call at Malmö, but reverse at Fosieby, the direct curve onto the Ystad line not yet having been built. A railway tunnel is being built under the centre of Malmö and when this opens (2009) part of the recently-opened line will no longer be used by regular passenger services.
