(Bruck an der Leitha -) Nickelsdorf ÖBB - Hegyeshalom MÁV (- Budapest): [E*] ÖBB works to Hegyeshalom, where there are switchable tracks. Trains on this route are generally worked by MÁV and ÖBB dual-frequency electric locomotives.
(Neusiedl am See -) Pamhagen GySEV - Fertöújlak GySEV (- Fertöszentmiklós): [E] Since 24 April 2004 this route has been electrified at the Hungarian standard 25kV 50Hz, as far as a location just south of Neusiedl am See station where the ÖBB 15kV 16.7Hz electrification starts. Passenger services between Wien and Fertöszentmiklós are worked by dual-frequency ÖBB and GySEV locomotives.
(Ebenfurth -) Baumgarten GySEV - Sopron GySEV: [E*] carries dual-frequency ÖBB Corridor Trains via Sopron to Deutschkreutz. Sopron to Ebenfurth is electrified at the Hungarian standard 25kV 50Hz, and Ebenfurth station area has switchable tracks: the ÖBB Corridor Trains change frequency whilst reversing here, and electrically-hauled GySEV/MÁV freight trains can work to here from Sopron. At Sopron there are separate domestic and international stations - though at platform level this is not obvious. There are quite separate entrances, with Hungarian and Austrian border controls taking place in the international area. A subway leads from this below the domestic platforms (to which there is normally no access) to the international island platform on the far side of the domestic ones. Conversely, the domestic subway does not extend beyond the domestic platforms.
(Wiener Neustadt -) Loipersbach-Schattendorf ÖBB - Sopron-deli MÁV (- Sopron GySEV): [D] carries ÖBB Corridor Trains between Wiener Neustadt and Sopron, a few of which continue to Deutschkreutz. See above for details of the Sopron station area.
Deutschkreutz ÖBB - Harka MÁV (- Sopron GySEV): [E] carries ÖBB Corridor Trains between Deutschkreutz and Sopron. See above for details of the Sopron station area. The route between Deutschkreutz and Sopron is electrified at the Hungarian standard 25kV 50Hz.
(Oberloisdorf -) Lutzmannsburg ÖBB - Répcevis MÁV (- Bük): Line closed and lifted after the 1956 Revolution in Hungary.
(Oberloisdorf -) Rattersdorf-Liebing ÖBB - Kőszeg MÁV (- Szombathely): Line closed. Through traffic ceased on 01 September 1960. There are plans for re-opening this route.
Rechnitz ÖBB - Szombathely MÁV: Line closed, but is proposed for re-opening.
(Güssing -) - Moschendorf ÖBB - Pinkamindszent MÁV (- Körmend): Line closed and lifted after the 1956 Revolution in Hungary.
(Jennersdorf -) Mogersdorf ÖBB - Szentgotthárd MÁV (- Körmend): [D] ÖBB works to Szentgotthárd.

(Virovitica -) Terezino Polje H - Barcs MÁV: The bridge over the Drava River was destroyed in World War 2. Line closed and lifted.
(Slatina -) Cadavica H - Zaláta MÁV (-Sellye): The bridge over the Drava River was destroyed in World War 2. Line closed. The section of line between Zaláta and Sellye was closed and lifted in 1971.
Donji Miholjac H - Drávaszabolcs MÁV (- Harkány - Pécs): The bridge over the Drava River was destroyed in World War 2. Line closed and lifted.
Baranjsko Petrovo Selo H - Beremend MÁV: Line closed and lifted after World War 2.
(Osijek -) Beli Manastir H - Magyarbóly MÁV (- Villány): [D] MÁV generally works to Beli Manastir, including the Sarajevo day train service.

(Mátészalka - Kocsord - Fehérgyarmat -) Zajta MÁV - Satu Mare CFR: Line closed and lifted. It is interesting to note that after World World 1 and the peace treaty of Trianon, the line between Fehérgyarmat and Zajta was cut off from the remainder of the Hungarian railway network, because the line from Kocsord to Fehérgyarmat was only built in the late 1920s.
Csenger MÁV - Satu Mare CFR: Line closed and lifted.
(Mátészalka -) Tiborszállás MÁV - Carei CFR: [D] MÁV works to Carei. The MÁV border station was Ágerdömajor until 31 January 2004, since when no trains have called there. Prior to 1 June 2004 use of this border crossing was restricted to local residents, but since then it has been available to all citizens of Romania and the European Union.
(Debrecen -) Nyírábrány MÁV - Valea lui Mihai CFR (- Carei): [D] MÁV works to Valea lui Mihai.
Nagykereki MÁV - Episcopia Bihor CFR: Line abandoned after World War 2.
(Püspökladány -) Biharkeresztes MÁV - Episcopia Bihor CFR (- Oradea): [D] CFR works to Biharkeresztes. Note that reservations are required when travelling from Budapest/Püspökladány towards Romania.
Körösnagyharsány MÁV - Cheresig CFR: Line closed and lifted.
(Békéscsaba -) Kötegyán MÁV - Salonta CFR: [D] MÁV works to Salonta.

(Hegyeshalom -) Rajka MÁV - Rusovce SR (- Bratislava-Petralka): [E] MÁV generally works to Bratislava, though on some longer-distance workings locomotives are changed at Rajka.
Komárom MÁV - Komárno SR: [E] This line closed to passengers in December 2004 but re-opened again in December 2007. The passenger service is operated by a SSK railbus. Freight continues and is normally worked by SSK locomotives to Komárom. Note: there is no passenger service shown in the 2008/2009 SSK timetable.
(Budapest -) Szob MÁV - túrovo SR (- Bratislava): [E] MÁV works trains to túrovo, and some through to Bratislava.
Drégelypalánk MÁV - ahy SR: Line closed and lifted in the 1960s.
Nógrádszakál MÁV - Buince SR (- Veľky Krtí): [D] Closed to passenger traffic, but SSK freight trains still run corridor services from Lučenec via Hungarian territory to Veľky Krtí (see next item).
(Balassagyarmat - Nógrádszakál -) Ipolytarnóc MÁV - Kalonda SR (- Lučenec): [D] Closed to passenger traffic, but SSK freight trains still run corridor services from Lučenec via Hungarian territory to Veľky Krtí (see previous item).
(Hatvan -) Somosköújfalu MÁV - iatorská Bukovinka SR (- Fiľiakovo): [D] SSK generally works to Somosköújfalu, though some trains are operated by MÁV locomotives as far as Zvolen.
Bánréve MÁV - Lenartovce SR: [D] Passenger service withdrawn with the timetable change on 12 December 2009. Previously it was operated by MÁV and SSK diesel railcars. Freight services remain.
(Tornádaska -) Hídvégardó MÁV - Hosťovce SR (-Turňa nad Bodvou): [D] The track is largely intact but very overgrown, and has not carried any traffic for many years.
(Miskolc -) Hidasnémeti MÁV - Kechnec SR (- Koice): [E*] SSK generally works to Hidasnémeti using dual-system locomotives, the electrification changeover being at the border.
(Szerencs -) Sátoraljaújhely MÁV - Slovenské Nove Mesto SR: [D] MÁV works to Slovenské Nove Mesto. Passenger service withdrawn with December 2008 timetable change. Freight services are thought to continue.

(Zalalövő -) Bajánsenye MÁV - Hodo S (- Murska Sobota): [D] MÁV works to Hodo. Through Hungary - Slovenia services started in mid-May 2001. As well as local services, which generally require a change of trains at Hodo, one through Budapest - Ljubljana IC train pair runs via this route.
Rédics MÁV - Lendava S: Line closed and partly lifted. Proposed for re-opening.

Záhony MÁV - Čop UZ: [D] This route is mainly interlaced 1435/1520mm track but only the 1435mm gauge is used as the 1520mm is severed on the Ukrainian side of the border. Passenger services are operated by MÁV diesel locomotives. There is 1435mm gauge freight traffic from Zahony via Čop to both Mukachevo in Ukraine and Halmeu in Romania. All cross-border 1520mm gauge traffic uses the Eperjeske-Rendező - Batjevo route.
Eperjeske-Rendező MÁV - Batjevo UZ: [D] This route is dual gauge 1435/1520mm, though the 1435mm gauge tracks are out of use. There are no passenger services. Freight traffic uses the 1520mm gauge tracks to and from the gauge-changing and transfer facilities in the Eperjeske area; any 1435mm gauge traffic runs via the Záhony - Čop route.
