(Graz -) Spielfeld-Straß ÖBB - Šentilj SŽ (- Maribor): [E*] SŽ works to Spielfeld Straß. Though there are switchable tracks here, they do not seem to be used as such, with the locomotives of incoming hauled trains being shunted back to their own end of the station.
(St. Paul -) Lavamünd ÖBB - Dravograd SŽ: Line closed.
(Klagenfurt -) Bleiburg ÖBB - Holmec SŽ (- Dravograd): [D] SŽ diesel railcars work to Bleiburg.
(Villach -) Rosenbach ÖBB - Jesenice SŽ (- Ljubljana): [E*] The change in electrification is at the midpoint of Jesenice station. The locomotives of incoming hauled trains are shunted back to their own end of the station. ÖBB works to Jesenice, with DB electric locomotives on some trains.
Last update: 5 April 2010.
Note: The Croatian and Slovenian railways were once part of the JŽ Yugoslav railways and have largely common operating systems. The two different electrification systems originate from Slovenia and part of Croatia having been Italian territory until 1945. Accordingly, FS 3kV dc electrification had reached Postojna and Rijeka by 1939. This system was used for further schemes in the area, despite 25kV being adopted as the Yugoslav standard.
(Lupoglav -) Buzet HŽ - Rakitovec SŽ (- Prešnica): [D] SŽ works to Buzet.
(Rijeka -) Šapjane HŽ - Ilirska Bistrica SŽ (- Pivka): [E] SŽ works to Šapjane, except for passenger trains to or from Rijeka starting or terminating at Ilirska Bistrica which are worked by HŽ throughout.
(Karlovac -) Kamanje HŽ - Rosalnice SŽ (- Metlika): [D] HŽ works to Metlika. One SSuX SŽ train each way runs between Metlika and Rosalnice only.
(Zagreb -) Savski Marof HŽ - Dobova SŽ (- Zidani Most): [E*] HŽ works to Dobova. The change in electrification system here pre-dates the break-up of the former Yugoslavia. There is a fixed voltage change, and incoming electric locomotives are shunted back to their own system by the relieving locomotive.
Kumrovec HŽ - Zelenjak SŽ and Zelenjak SŽ - Klanjec HŽ: [D] This route passed through a part of Slovene territory between each of these pairs of stations. HŽ trains between Savski Marof and Kumrovec ceased from June 2001. Passenger services restarted between Savski Marof and Harmica in 2008 but the remainder of the line is closed and probably lifted.
Kumrovec HŽ - Imeno SŽ (- Stranje): [D] There was a passenger service between Zagreb and Celje via this line, in most cases with a change of train at Kumrovec, but subsequent to the break up of Yugoslavia the service over this cross-border section was withdrawn. HŽ trains between Savski Marof and Kumrovec ceased from June 2001. Passenger services restarted between Savski Marof and Harmica in 2008 but the remainder of the line is closed and probably lifted.
(Zabok -) Đurmanec HŽ - Sveti Rok ob Sotli SŽ (- Rogatec - Stranje): [D] There was a passenger service between Zabok and Celje via this line, but subsequent to the break up of Yugoslavia the service over this cross-border section was withdrawn. The line is now closed between Đurmanec and Sveti Rok ob Sotli and at least in part probably lifted. Note: from Rogatec station a short industrial branch line crosses the river into Croatia.
Čakovec HŽ - Središče SŽ (- Ormož): [D] SŽ works to Čakovec.
(Čakovec -) Mursko Središće HŽ - Lendava SŽ: [D] There was a passenger service between Mursko Središće and Lendava via this line, but subsequent to the break up of Yugoslavia the service over this cross-border section has been withdrawn. Some freight traffic remains.
