Austria - Slovakia

(Wien -) Marchegg ÖBB - Devínska Nová Ves ŽSR (- Bratislava): [D] There is a roughly hourly service between Bratislava and Wien, worked by ÖBB diesel locomotives.

(Wien -) Wolfsthal ÖBB - Bratislava Petržalka ŽSR: Line closed and lifted after World War II.

(Bruck an der Leitha -) Kittsee ÖBB - Bratislava-Petržalka ŽSR: [E*] ÖBB works to Bratislava-Petržalka. A bay platform and the south end of the adjacent through platform are electrified at 15kV 16.7Hz for ÖBB local trains, the remainder of the station being electrified at 25kV 50Hz.


Czech Republic - Slovakia

Note: ČD and ŽSR were, until the split of Czechoslovakia, one railway and they still work to largely common operational and technical standards.

(Český Těšín -) Mosty u Jablunkova ČD - Čadca ŽSR: [E] this route is worked by a mixture of ČD and ŽSSK trains.

Horní Lideč ČD - Strelenka ŽSR (- Púchov): [E] ŽSSK works to Horní Lideč.

(Bylnice -) Vlárský průsmyk ČD - Horné Srnie ŽSR (- Nemšova): [D] ŽSSK works the local services as far as Vlárský průsmyk.

(Veselí nad Moravou -) Velká nad Veličkou ČD - Vrbovce ŽSR (- Nové Mesto nad Váhom): [D] ČD works to Vrbovce.

Sudoměřice nad Moravou ČD - Skalica na Slovensku ŽSR: [D] Passenger service ceased in 2007.

Hodonín ČD - Holíč nad Moravou ŽSR: [E] This line closed to passengers at the December 2004 timetable change. Freight continues as the route is an electrified alternative route avoiding Břeclav.

(Břeclav -) Lanžhot ČD - Brodské ŽSR (- Kúty): [E] this route is worked by a mixture of ČD and ŽSSK trains.


Hungary - Slovakia

(Hegyeshalom -) Rajka MÁV - Rusovce ŽSR (- Bratislava-Petržalka): [E] MÁV generally works to Bratislava, though on some longer-distance workings locomotives are changed at Rajka.

Komárom MÁV - Komárno ŽSR: [E] This line closed to passengers in December 2004 but re-opened again in December 2007. The passenger service is operated by a ŽSSK railbus. Freight continues and is normally worked by ŽSSK locomotives to Komárom. Note: there is no passenger service shown in the 2008/2009 ŽSSK timetable.

(Budapest -) Szob MÁV - Štúrovo ŽSR (- Bratislava): [E] MÁV works trains to Štúrovo, and some through to Bratislava.

Drégelypalánk MÁV - Šahy ŽSR: Line closed and lifted in the 1960s.

Nógrádszakál MÁV - Bušince ŽSR (- Veľky Krtíš): [D] Closed to passenger traffic, but ŽSSK freight trains still run corridor services from Lučenec via Hungarian territory to Veľky Krtíš (see next item).

(Balassagyarmat - Nógrádszakál -) Ipolytarnóc MÁV - Kalonda ŽSR (- Lučenec): [D] Closed to passenger traffic, but ŽSSK freight trains still run corridor services from Lučenec via Hungarian territory to Veľky Krtíš (see previous item).

(Hatvan -) Somosköújfalu MÁV - Šiatorská Bukovinka ŽSR (- Fiľiakovo): [D] ŽSSK generally works to Somosköújfalu, though some trains are operated by MÁV locomotives as far as Zvolen.

Bánréve MÁV - Lenartovce ŽSR: [D] Passenger service withdrawn with the timetable change on 12 December 2009. Previously it was operated by MÁV and ŽSSK diesel railcars. Freight services remain.

(Tornádaska -) Hídvégardó MÁV - Hosťovce ŽSR (-Turňa nad Bodvou): [D] The track is largely intact but very overgrown, and has not carried any traffic for many years.

(Miskolc -) Hidasnémeti MÁV - Kechnec ŽSR (- Košice): [E*] ŽSSK generally works to Hidasnémeti using dual-system locomotives, the electrification changeover being at the border.

(Szerencs -) Sátoraljaújhely MÁV - Slovenské Nove Mesto ŽSR: [D] MÁV works to Slovenské Nove Mesto. Passenger service withdrawn with December 2008 timetable change. Freight services are thought to continue.


Poland - Slovakia

Last update: 17 February 2008.

Łupków PKP - Medzilaborce mesto ŽSR: [D] ŽSR works to Łupków. From the 2006 timetable there has been a summer only FSSuO cross-border two train pair passenger service and PKP internal connecting service to Zagórz.

(Muszyna -) Leluchów PKP - Čirč ŽSR (- Plaveč): [E] PKP works to Plaveč, though there are ŽSR internal local services between Plaveč and Čirč. Actual cross-border services are the new daytime daily Krakow – Budapest train pair, a summer only daily overnight and two ski and summer season local services.

(Zwardoň -) Skalité-Serafínov PKP - Čadca ŽSR: [E] ŽSR works most services to Zwardoň but there is a daily PKP EMU from Kraków to Žilina and return, balanced by a ŽSR electric locomotive working a daily service to Katowice. Electrification was completed in December 2002.


Slovakia - Ukraine

(Veľké Kapušany -) Maťovce ŽSR - Pavlovo UZ (- Užhorod): [E] The route across the border is dual gauge 1435/1520mm, however the 1435mm gauge tracks are out of use. There is no passenger service across the border. The majority of the cross-border traffic is 1520mm gauge freight to the VSŽ (now U.S. Steel) Steelworks near Košice, though there are gauge-changing and transfer facilities in the Maťovce area.

(Košice -) Čierna nad Tisou ŽSR - Čop UZ: [E] This route and the station area at Čop are dual gauge 1435/1520mm. Passenger services are 1435mm gauge, operated by ŽSR; on through services, gauge-changing is performed to the east of Čop station, carriages being shunted out of and into the station for this purpose. Freight traffic uses the 1520mm gauge tracks to and from the gauge-changing and transfer facilities in the Čierna nad Tisou area. There is 1435mm gauge freight traffic from Čierna nad Tisou via Čop to both Mukachevo in Ukraine and Halmeu in Romania.
