Enthusiast's Guide to Travelling the Railways of Europe

CZECH REPUBLIC (Česká Republika)

Lines with obscure or sparse passenger services

This list is based on the timetable dated from 13 December 2009 to 11 December 2010, unless otherwise stated. Standard abbreviations used are explained in the General Information document. In the heading to each entry, the map reference for the line in the Malkus Atlas Drah České Republiky (2006/7 edition) is shown, in italic, in addition to the reference to M.G. Ball's European Railway Atlas.

Last update for this page: 16 March 2010.

IMPORTANT NOTE: in the Czech Railways timetable Jízdní Řád, the "crossed hammers" working days symbol means "Mondays to Fridays" not, as for most other railways, "Mondays to Saturdays".

Obscure services

Praha-Běchovice – Praha-Malešice – Praha-Vršovice [010, 011] (35B2, 36B) CZ10/1

Engineering operations between Praha-Libeň and Praha-Běchovice having been completed, only a few trains to and from the Kolín direction now use this mainly freight-only route.

    EN 477 Berlin - 00:37 Praha hl.n. - Budapest
    EN 425 22:00 Praha hl.n. - Košice
    EN 475 Budapest - 00:38 Brno hl.n. - Berlin
    EN 424 Košice - 05:53 Kolín - Praha hl.n.

Velký Osek – Sány (výhybna Kanín) via direct curve [020] (36A1, 23) CZ10/2

There are two single-track routes between Velký Osek and the line eastwards towards Chlumec nad Cidlinou: one (1.6 km long) direct to the north-east, and the other a 4.2 km loop line initially heading south-east.

The roughly hourly through "fast" trains between Nymburk and Chlumec use the loop line to avoid reversal at Velký Osek station. The approximately 2-hourly through trains between Kolín and Chlumec are believed on the basis of their timings to use the direct curve.

Nymburk město – Veleliby [061] (35B3, 22) CZ10/3

The direct line is used by trains between Nymburk město and Veleliby or Křinec which are not booked to call intermediately at Nymburk hl.n.

  SuO Sp 1648 Turnov - 18:13 Křinec - Praha hl.n.

Praha-Holešovice – Praha-Libeň [010, ML] (35A2, 36A-B) CZ10/4

A frequent local service listed as table ML [Městská Linka] runs via this route on Mondays to Fridays.

Žatec avoiding line: Žatec západ – Žiželice (odbočka Velichov) [124, 160] (35B1, 18) CZ10/5

Praha-Vršovice – Praha- Vyšehrad [171, 221] (35A2, 36A) CZ10/6

This east to west curve is used by special excursion trains of historic stock.

Břevnice (odbočka Kubešův Mlýn) – Havlíčkův Brod [238] (41A3 not correctly shown, 56) CZ10/7

There are two routes between (Pardubice -) Břevnice and Havlíčkův Brod, one joining the line from Brno (table 250) and running into Havlíčkův Brod from the south and the other running directly into Havlíčkův Brod from the north. The latter route serves separate platforms on the eastern side of Havlíčkův Brod station which are also accessible from the south. It is not possible to tell from the timetable which route trains will use. However, through trains to/from Jihlava (table 225) are likely to use the eastern side platforms and the northern route to avoid reversal at Havlíčkův Brod.

    R 1183 Pardubice-Rosice nad Labem - 08:35 Chotěboř - Jihlava
    R 1181 Pardubice-Rosice nad Labem - 16:30 Chotěboř - Jihlava
    R 1180 Jihlava - 09:15 Havlíčkův Brod - Pardubice hl.n.
    R 1182 Jihlava - 17:16 Havlíčkův Brod - Pardubice hl.n.

Přerov avoiding line: Rokytnice u Přerova (výhybna Dluhonice) – Prosenice [270] (42A3, 61) CZ10/8

This west to north curve is used by all trains between Olomouc and Hranice na Moravě which are not scheduled to call at Přerov, indicated by a vertical wavy line marking against this station.

Polanka nad Odrou – Ostrava-Vítkovice (odbočka Odra) [270, 321] (42A3, 47B) CZ10/9

This curve is used by trains between Český Těšín and Studénka routed via Havířov but not Ostrava hl.n.

  FO R 1583 Praha hl.n. - 16:52 Studénka - Třinec
  FO R 1585 Praha-Smíchov - 18:55 Studénka - Třinec
  SuO R 1582 Třinec - 15:54 Ostrava-Vítkovice - Praha hl.n.

Bludov avoiding line: Postřelmov – Bludov lázně [291, 292] (41B3, 42) CZ10/10

This curve is used by trains between Zábřeh na Moravě and Hanušovice which are not scheduled to call at Bludov. These trains are recognisable in the timetable by the vertical wavy line marking against Bludov.

Křenovice horní n. – Holubice [300] (41B2, 75) CZ10/11

Most trains on the Brno - Přerov line use the connection between Blažovice (on the Brno - Veselí nad Moravou line) and Holubice. The minority of trains running via Křenovice horní n. (most of them westbound services) can be identified in the timetable by a vertical wavy line against Blažovice. Route changes are sometimes made for pathing reasons to accommodate late running.

Brno-Židenice – Brno-Slatina (odbočka Slatinská) [340] (41B2, 79A) CZ10/12

This is an alternative route between Brno hl.n. and the Veselí nad Moravou line, involving reversal at Brno-Židenice instead of running via Brno-Černovice. Trains using this route are recognisable in the timetable by the vertical wavy line against Brno-Černovice.

The following sections of line within the Czech Republic can be ridden only in the through (corridor) trains of neighbouring administrations:
