HUNGARY (Magyarország)

Lines with obscure or sparse passenger services

This list is based on the timetable dated from 10 December 2006 until 8 December 2007, unless otherwise shown. Standard abbreviations used are explained in the General Information document.

Obscure lines:

Last update for this page: 05 January 2007.

Almásfüzitő avoiding line: Tata – Almásfüzitő felső [1] (42A1 not shown) HU07/1

Almásfüzitő station is on a loop separated from the main line by some sidings. The avoiding line is used by trains on the Tatabánya - Komárom route not calling at Almásfüzitő station.

Budapest- Zugló - Rákosrendező [2, 120a, 142] (44B2) HU07/2

New service in 2007.

    2819 Lajosmizse - 04:44 Budapest-Zugló – Esztergom

Kőbánya-Kispest – Budapest-Ferencváros [29, 30, 150] (44B2) HU07/3

East-west trains not calling at any of the Budapest terminal stations use this connecting line, avoiding Keleti station.

Since the closure of the terminal station Budapest Józsefváros at the December 2005 timetable change, this route is used by most table 150 trains, plus some other services on tables 29 and 30.

Érd felső (Érd elagazas) – Tárnok [30a] (47B3) HU07/4

Use of this link between the Székesfehérvár and Sárbogárd lines relieves pathing pressure on the Budapest - Székesfehérvár line, which is only single track with passing places, compared to the Budapest - Sárbogárd line which is double track. This route is used by those table 30a trains that have a timing or | marking at Érd felső [use of black squares to signify the Érd station used has ceased], but it should be noted that punctuality can affect the route taken by non-stop trains.

Dombóvár avoiding line: Dombóvár alsó – Kaposszekcső or Csikóstőtős [40, 41, 50] (47A2) HU07/5

This west to south spur is used by trains between Kaposvár and Pécs or Bátasék which do not call at Dombóvár. The platforms at Dombóvár alsó are on the curve so trains which start/terminate/reverse here do not connect with the line towards Kaposvár.

    8209 Nagykanizsa - 07:10 Csoma-Szabadi - Pécs
    9800 Szombathely - 09:21 Taszár - Pécs
    8801 Celldömölk - 20:14 Baté - Pécs
H SuO 19806 Szombathely - 20:17 Kaposvár - Pécs
E SuO 18801 Siófok - 20:17 Kaposvár - Pécs
    8802 Pécs – 07:53 Sásd - Celldömölk
E SO 18800 Pécs – 08:32 Sásd - Siófok
    7809 Szeged - 09:27 Mágocs-Alsómocsolád - Dombóvár also
    38707 Bátaszek – 10:17 Mágocs-Alsómocsolád – 10:42 Dombóvár also [reverse] - Pécs
    9801 Pécs - 16:56 Sásd – 17:45 Dombóvár alsó [reverse] - Bátaszek
    38723 Bátaszek - 17:28 Csikóstőttős - Dombóvár alsó
    9803 Pécs - 17:28 Sásd - Szombathely

Eger rendező [86] (43A1) HU07/6

The single line approaching Eger from the south splits significantly to serve a substantial goods yard [rendező] and offers bi-directional alternative routes of around 2km for arrivals and departures. The route via the goods yard and the south to west side of a triangle to join line 87 had a limited booked service in 2006, but as all timetabled arrivals and departures at Eger on table 86 are some minutes apart in the current timetable, it is believed the route via rendező would only be used in 2007 to assist with punctuality.

Cegléd avoiding line: Ceglédi szállások – Abony [100, 140] (48A3) HU07/7

An east to south curve avoiding Cegléd.

H FO 17605 Szeged - 14:43 Nagykőrös - Záhony
H SO 16703 Záhony - 19:43 Abony – Szeged

Nyíregyháza NyK - Nyíregyháza depot [118, 119] (431B not shown) HU07/8

The narrow-gauge line from Balsai Tisza-part and Dombrád continues for some 400-500 metres beyond Nyíregyháza NyK station to Nyíregyháza narrow-gauge depot. The depot appears to be available as an unofficial stop, with nominally empty stock movements in both directions carrying passengers.

Kőbánya felső - Rákos (via low level tracks) [80, 120] (44B2) HU07/9

This route is via low level tracks from the south side of Kőbánya felső station to the north side of Rákos station.

It is assumed the following trains use this route as they have advertised calls at Rákos. Although shown in the printed timetable, these services are yet to be confirmed.

E   5609 Miskolc - 08:24 Rákos – Balatonszentygyőrgy
E   5608 Balatonszentygyőrgy – 17:23 Budapest-Ferencváros - Miskolc

There are no known advertised workings, but most of the Rákos - Ferencváros unadvertised staff trains operate via this route (see HU07/10).

Budapest-Ferencváros - Kőbánya felső (44B2) HU07/10

An east - west link avoiding both Keleti and Józsefváros.

Although shown in the printed timetable, the following services are yet to be confirmed.

E   5609 Miskolc - 08:29 Kőbánya felső – Balatonszentygyőrgy
E   5608 Balatonszentygyőrgy – 17:23 Budapest-Ferencváros - Miskolc

The Rákos - Ferencváros unadvertised staff trains operate via this route (2006 timings). These trains are normally formed of a class V43 electric locomotive and one passenger coach; they also run via the triangular layout in Ferencváros goods yard before arriving at Budapest-Ferencváros.
