Lines with obscure or sparse passenger services

This list is based on the timetable dated 30 May 1999 to 27 May 2000, unless otherwise shown. Standard abbreviations used are explained in the General Information document.

Obscure lines:

Arad avoiding line: Glogovăţ – Aradu Nou [200,310] (48B2, not shown) RO00/1

A south to east curve providing a through run to or from the Timişoara line.

All services were diverted via Remetea Mică or Lugoj from 20 July 1998 until further notice because of a damaged bridge at Arad.

Teiuş avoiding line: Mihalţ – Coşlariu [200A,300] (49B2) RO00/2

An east to west curve avoiding Teiuş, used by through trains shown on Table 200A with no timing at Teiuş.

Ploieşti Sud avoiding line: Ploieşti Triaj – Ploieşti Vest [300] (50A1) RO00/3

A south to west curve used by all trains between Bucureşti and the Braşov line not booked to call at Ploieşti Sud.

Apahida avoiding line: Apahida halt (Ram. Cojocna) – Cojocna (Ram. Jucu) [300,401] (49B3, not shown) RO00/4

This north to south spur avoids Apahida station.

Târguşor Bihor – Cadia (via Săcueni Bihor halt) [402,413] (48B3) RO00/5

A south facing connection off the Sărmăşag line avoiding Săcueni Bihor station. Trains timed at Săcueni Bihor H use this curve (the others use the north curve to the station).

Mărăşeşti avoiding line: Putna Seacă (Mărăşeşti Ram. Putna) – Gral. Eremia Grigorescu (Mărăşeşti Ram. Gral. Eremia Grigorescu) [500,704] (50A1, not shown) RO99/6

A south to east curve for through trains between Bucureşti and the Tecuci line, shown on table 500 with destination Iaşi but no time at Mărăşeşti and on table 704 with destination Bucureşti but no time at Mărăşeşti.

Paşcani avoiding line: Paşcani triaj – Ruginoasa [500,606] (50A2, not shown) RO00/7

A south to east curve linking with the Iaşi line. Through trains shown on Table 606 with no timings at Paşcani use this curve.

Suceava avoiding line: Suceava Nord – Suceava Vest [502] (50A2, not shown) RO00/8

A north to west curve avoiding Suceava station.

Făurei avoiding line: Cireşu – Găiseanca [700,702] (50B1, not shown) RO00/10

A south to east curve avoiding Făurei station.

Bucureşti north ring line: Bucureşti Triaj or Bucureşti Nord – Pantelimon (via Bucureşti Băneasa) [800] (53A3) RO00/12

An east to west link line, around the north side of the city, which enables trains to or from the Constanţa line to reach Bucureşti Nord, or points north and west without reversal. At the west end, trains that use the curve facing north and west are shown in Table 800 with a time at Bucureşti Băneasa, while trains that use the south facing curve are shown on table 800 with a time at Bucureşti Nord.

Pantelimon – Mogoşoaia [800,900] (53A3) RO00/13

The northern Bucuresţi freight ring line.

Palas – Constanta (via goods line) [800] (53B3 not shown) RO00/14

This line avoids Constanta station on the west side, but with a spur giving access into the southeast end of the station. Through trains between Bucuresţi (or beyond) and Mangalia have been observed to use this route, but it is not known if this is a regular feature (to simplify re-engining, perhaps). Further reports welcomed.

Jilava – Chiajna [902] (53A3) RO00/15

Local trains on the Giurgiu line use Bucureşti Progresu as their Bucureşti terminus. This south west sector of the Bucureşti ring line gives access to Bucureşti Nord for those trains shown in table 902 with a Bucureşti Nord time, also trains R403/R404 (see RO00/11).

Deletions since previous edition

The following lines, which appeared in the 1998/9 edition, are no longer included for the reasons shown:

RO99/4A Oradea - Ceica: service restored to timetable (but no service beyond Băile Felix because of washout during winter 1998/9)

The following lines have few trains (relative to service levels generally in this country) - fewer than three trains each way on at least three days a week - or do not run each weekday.
