The Peak Forest Canal crosses the River Goyt on this fine three arch aqueduct, opened in 1800. This is the highest canal aqueduct in England and the highest masonry-arch aqueduct in Britain. The difference in water levels between the river and canal is 90 feet (27.4 m), exceeded only by the Pontcysyllte aqueduct in Wales.
The 1865 railway viaduct runs parallel.
