Looking eastwards along the A580 East Lancashire Road towards Manchester. In the distance the road is climbing to cross the Great Central Railway route from Glazebrook to Lowton St Mary's and on to St Helens Central and Wigan Central, which operated from 1884 to 1965. The HS2 planned route passes under the A580 in the middle distance in this view, on this side of the disused railway.
