Looking roughly northwards from the west bank of the Manchester Ship Canal. The viaduct is Ship Canal Railway Deviation No.5, opened in 1893 to take the Cheshire Lines Committee's railway over the Canal. The pre-1893 alignment was on the far side of the viaduct. This route was opened by the Cheshire Lines Committee on 2 September 1873, forming their route between Manchester Central and Liverpool Central via Warrington Central. The road here, the A57 Cadishead Way, is on the course of a former industrial railway line along the canal bank.
