North of Konjic the line between Sarajevo and Ploče descends steeply in a series of switchback curves with multiple tunnels and viaducts, including several sections where the alignment can be seen at the lower level. This standard gauge electrified route replaced the original 760 mm gauge route, which used a rack section to climb through this area; the former narrow gauge formation can been in many places.
