The entrance to Canning Half Tide Lock, looking from the footbridge over the lock out towards the River Mersey, which is near low water at this time. We would come in this way later with "Daniel Adamson" at high water. Behind the camera is Canning Half Tide Dock - "Half Tide" meaning that the dock is partly tidal, with the access lock normally only used at or near high tide. The lock and dock here are managed by the Canal and River Trust. The lock gate is a single gate, lowered into the bed of the passage. Across the river is Birkenhead pier, with a Belfast ship docked.
