The Barragem do Chança (Portuguese; Embalse del Chanza in Spanish, Chanza Dam in English) is a dam built on the international course of the Chança, the last major tributary on the left bank of the Guadiana. The dam is located immediately northeast of the Portuguese village of Pomarão. It was completed in 1985, and straddles the Portugal / Spain border. As well as providing flooding control, and hydro-electric power, it provides water to the Chanza Canal which in turn supplies Huelva. Prior to the dam being built, the Canal was fed by pumping water out of the River Chanza. For more photos of the Canal please see these photos from a 2021 visit.
