The São Domingos to Pomarão Railway, also known as Ramal das Minas de São Domingos, was a 17 km railway to transport the pyrite production from Minas de São Domingos to the river port of Pomarão, on the Guadiana River, where it was unloaded onto ships bound abroad. It was located in the east of the municipality of Mértola, in Portugal. Mining began in 1859 and ended in 1965. Track gauge was 1067 mm and it was always isolated from the main Portuguese rail system.
These photos were taken on the first visit I made to the area: further visits were made to Pomarão on 29th December 2022 and to the railway up to the mines on 27th December 2022.
