The aqueduct in Segovia was built in the first century AD by the Romans to channel water from springs in the mountains 17 km away to the city's fountains, public baths and private houses, and was in use until 1973. These photographs were all taken during the evening of Saturday 28th January 2023 and the morning of Sunday 29th January 2023. The aqueduct mostly comprises granite blocks with no mortar to hold them together. The general gradient over the aqueduct is 1%. Photos at the upstream end include views of the sand trap used to filter sand out of the flowing water.
