This photo was taken on 28/05/2017 but explains the area south of Harpur Hill so well I have included it in the August 2016 set. There are three railway routes visible in this view, all running left to right, looking north-eastwards.
Nearest in the original C&HPR 1830 alignment, closed in 1892 when quarrying was extended over the track bed at Hindlow, but re-opened from 1929 to 1973 to serve Hillhead Quarry. Middle is the L&NWR 1892 alignment between Harpur Hill Jn (left) and Hindlow (right), built to allow the C&HPR closure. In the far distance is the 1892 L&NWR line from Buxton to Hindlow, Dowlow, Parsley Hay and on to Ashbourne, this is still open for freight traffic to the quarries at Dowlow.
