![Northern EMU 323 232 has arrived in the wrong platform at St Helens Junction station after using the facing crossover at Sankey Jn (just west of Earlestown station) and running wrong line to here. Pilotman working was in force for this move, the pilotman being picked up and dropped off at Earlestown station. Special working instructions and the presence of the Pilotman authorised this unusual manoeuvre. Amongst other reasons, use of this platform ensured that passengers using the rail replacement bus did not have to use the station footbridge, from where this photograph was taken.
St Helens Junction is one of very few UK stations that have a name including the word 'Junction' but which are no longer a junction. Burscough Junction is another example. 20191102_162959.jpg](_data/i/upload/2020/02/16/20200216193331-ee60858f-me.jpg)
