Walton Old Junction
Looking north-westwards from the original 1837 Grand Junction Railway bridge over the River Mersey at Walton Old Junction, towards the post-1893 Manchester Ship Canal Railway Deviation No.1 river bridge. That bridge was built for four tracks but since the early 1970s the only tracks - the Up and Down Main - have used the far set of girders. Before resignalling there were three in use. Certainly the bridge girders for the nearer two tracks haven't seen any paint for a good while.
