The 1853 alignment of the Warrington & Altrincham Junction Railway would have crossed from right to left just before the bend in the road here. It closed to normal traffic here in 1893 when the Manchester Ship Canal Deviation No.3 was built but remained in use to give access to Ship Canal sidings and premises alongside the canal until sometime around the 1960s. This local road and the houses were built after the line closed.
