Approaching Eastham Locks from the River Mersey. The large lock giving access to the Manchester Ship Canal is open ready for us on the left. To the right are the lock gates for the Queen Elizabeth II Dock, opened in 1954 and alongside but separate from the entrance to the Ship Canal. Visible in the QE II Dock is the tanker "Xing Hai Wan", which had arrived from Cadiz in Spain the previous day.
