The railway line eastwards from Beja towards Moura opened in stages: initially 20 km as far as Quintos; a further 9 km to Serpa (later named Serpa-Brinches) in 1878; another 13 km here to Pias in 1887, then finally the remaining 17 km to Moura in 1902. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1990, surviving for another 10 years for freight traffic. This view shows the remains of a semaphore signal just east of the station at Pias.
