A few km north of Skopje is this aqueduct, 386 m long and 16.5 m high at its tallest. It has clearly suffered over the years and has been rebuilt in parts many times, not surprising considering that this is an area that suffers from earthquakes. The construction date is unclear, though it seems likely that it was built in the reign of Roman Justinian I in the sixth Century AD in the Byzantine period. Alternatively it was built in the 16th Century AD during the Ottoman empire. Some maintenance work has been done recently and more is being carried out.
