Handforth station in Cheshire has an active Friends of Handforth Station organisation (the first such in the UK, from 1996) keeping the station in a clean and tidy state, and pressing for improvements such as lifts - at present the only access to the platforms is via steps.
The station has been adorned with a wide variety of station nameboards with designs originating with various railway companies around the world.
