This bridge near Latchford carried the 1893 "Railway Deviation No.3" route of the Warrington and Altrincham Junction Railway, closed in 1985. The pathway is on the course of the Runcorn to Latchford Canal, opened in 1804 to bypass parts of the River Mersey, closed in the 1890s when the Manchester Ship Canal opened.
