This was replacing Transport for Wales DMUs 150251 and 153369, which had worked train 1W74, 1655 Carmarthen to Manchester Piccadilly, from Cardiff Central to Shrewsbury; 153369 was defective. The 150/153 had already replaced Transport for Wales DMU 175104 at Cardiff Central as the latter had a defect.
