I've always wanted to visit the Pont du Gard, finally got an opportunity on this trip. It was built as part of the aqueduct works providing the water supply for the Roman colony of Nemausus (today's Nîmes), which was founded in the first century B.C. The aqueduct was built in 40 - 60 A.D. It crosses the Gardon River near the town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard in southern France and is the highest of all Roman aqueduct bridges. Total height is 49 m, present length 275 m. It is accessible from Nîmes by route 121 bus.
